Broadcasting

The department provides both radio and television broadcast facilities for use by students in both classroom and club activities. The radio studio, remodeled and reequipped in 2018, is part of the Weather Center, and allow Texas A&M Weather Broadcasting (Facebook, Twitter) members to provide current conditions and forecasts for two public radio stations in the Texas A&M System: KAMU-FM at Texas A&M, and KTRL-FM at Tarleton State University.

The television broadcast facility is co-located with the Aggie Doppler Radar (ADRAD) control station on the 12th floor of O&M, and provides a "Green Screen" capability for the insertion of background computer graphics. Originally installed in 2008 by Dr. Courtney Schumacher, this facility was upgraded in 2019 to HD capability and allows a student to make a "reel" of their broadcasting takes on portable media. This facility is the home for ATMO 461, Broadcast Meteorology, currently taught by KBTX Chief Meteorologist Shel Winkley '07.

Students are in the planning phases to begin providing television forecast spots to KAMU-TV.
